Made More Beautiful

We celebrated Keegan’s baptism last Sunday. Fr. Joe Moriarty, the priest who married Matt and me almost 10 years ago, made a special trip from French Lick to preside over the baptism for us. Several guests came from out of state including my brother and his family from Pittsburgh, my mom from CA, Auntie Mila from NYC, Keegan’s godfathers Chris from D.C. & Scott from Michigan, and Keegan’s birth family from Ohio. Some friends from our adoption group and our St. Paul community were also there. It meant a lot to have all these people present to celebrate this special day with us.

Ever since we matched with Keegan’s birthmom last summer, I've had a sense that God has had His hand all over this. From the beginning, I felt an underlying peace, even with the natural anticipation and anxiety that comes from any adoption process. It is hard to explain, but someday if you are interested, ask me about all of the moments of grace I experienced through our process of adopting Keegan.

A few weeks before the baptism, I sent a note to Fr. Joe to give him some background about Keegan’s adoption story. I didn't go into great detail, but I shared with him that we met Keegan’s birthmom last summer and had the opportunity over the fall to get to know one another and to spend some time with her family while we were in Cincinnati for Keegan’s birth.

This was Fr. Joe's response back to me - “What a beautiful story of Keegan’s life made more beautiful by the fact that we can all participate.”

I don’t think I could have said it any better.
