Father's Day 2012

Matt was fighting a cold over Father's Day weekend so we had a low key day at home. I made one of Matt's favorite treats - carrot cake cupcakes - the night before, so when Keegan woke up on Sunday morning and saw them on the kitchen counter, he declared with excitement "Mommy made those for Keegan!". He now loves any kind of celebration because he has learned that  it means yummy treats for him.

I told him that the cupcakes were for Papa too because it was Father's Day and that we still had to put frosting on them. He stood on a chair at the kitchen counter so he could watch me decorate them and understandably, he could hardly contain himself. He kept saying "Want that...Keegee would like a muffin!" I explained that we had to wait for Papa to wake up and that while we waited, I wanted him to help me sign his card and put his gift on the table.

As I was scurrying through the house, trying to get Matt's gift and card together, I hear Keegan in our bedroom yelling "Papa, wake up! Want a cupcake Papa?!? Keegee would like a cupcake! Wake up!" I barely had a chance to get the cupcakes on the dining table before I saw Keegan pulling a sleepy Matt along from the family room into the dining room.

Matt didn't get to sleep in but it was a good day nonetheless. What could beat a day in honor of the Dads in our lives and cupcakes for breakfast?!

  1. Great story! I can see it playing out in my head. I'm glad you all had a nice father's day (and Keegan got his cupcake).
